Are They Actually Bringing Back Walters?

With that wet fart, the season is finally over. Thank god. I spent far more time then I would like to admit watching the worst football team in CFB right now. Indiana has beaten Purdue 66-0, giving Purdue its 3rd shutout of the season.

With Purdue’s season over, there was a report that Purdue was going to bring back head coach Ryan Walters. I wrote previously about the Pros and Cons of such a decision, and after finishing out the season, I am begging you to not do this. What is the end goal? What is the purpose of bringing back Ryan Walters. A 1-11 season is really bad, some coaches get fired for much less. Walters is bleeding recruits left and right, and the transfers are going to explode in the next few weeks as every player worth a damn leaves this team. So what’s the goal?

What would Ryan Walters have to do to keep his job in 2026? Purdue’s schedule gets easier, but not by much. Obviously if Purdue only wins 1 game he is fired, but does he survive with 2 wins? 4? 6? Like do we keep a coach who goes 0.500? My thoughts would be no, the only way Walters would keep his job would be if he wins 6-8 games, getting a few upsets. Which makes the idea of bringing him back insane. He cannot win 6 games next year, and that is probably the only way he stays, so what are we doing.

It seems like the AD’s office is focusing on the immediate and not the future. It would be expensive and a bad look to fire a coach after 2 years. They may be thinking that if they fire every coach after a rough start, they won’t have any coaches left. WRONG. RYAN WALTERS IS SPECIAL. He is the dumbest coach I have watched with in game planning, and staff building. Fire this man, start again, give the new guy more time.

At this point it feels like I am putting more mental energy into the program than anyone in the program. Please prove me wrong.
